Today, I wanted to go over nutrition labels. It is always important to know what you are putting into your body.
0:44 – Ranch Dressing (Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing) – Serving size- 2 table spoons. In the bottle, it comes about 20 servings.
2:09 – In those 2 table spoons, the calories = 140 calories
2:39 – Calories From Fat – 130 of the 140 calories of the 2 table spoons is from fat. When the numbers are really close like that, it means there is a lot of fat.
3:00 – Total Fat – 14 grams of fat, which generates to the 130 calories, because there are 9 calories in each gram of fat.
3:19 – Percent Of Daily Values is based on a 2,000 calorie diet. Just about every nutritional label will say this, because the USDA recommends we eat roughly a 2,000 calorie diet. It is pretty skewed to be honest with you. Most of us do not eat a 2,000 calorie diet.
4:12 – Amount per serving – that tells you how many grams are in each serving. And again, each serving is 2 table spoons.
4:45 – So, let’s dive into specifically the macronutrient content, which are proteins, carbs, and fat.
– Total Fat – 14 grams of fat
– Calories – 9 Calories per each gram of fat
– Saturated Fat (not a good fat) – Raises your cholesterol
– Cholesterol – 10 mg (this isn’t too high, but if you have a history of high cholesterol, then you will want to pay attention to that.)
– Sodium Content – 260mg
-Total Carbs – 2 grams, carbs can be beneficial depending on your goals
– Sugar – 1 gram (just about as bad as the saturated fat content) This number isn’t too bad, but you want to make sure this is not too high!
I hope I gave you guys a good rundown on how to read nutrition labels, I used a funny example with Hidden Valley Ranch because I know everybody loves it.
